Symptoms


When users try to use an application in runtime, WebLogic Server 10.3.0 crashes unexpectedly with this error:
X connection to localhost:10.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).


Cause


The symptoms indicate that the application configuration is setting the DISPLAY variable somewhere or is being run from X-forward command prompt. When this occurs, WLS tries to forward the output to an X display. However, this will fail if X is not used or not even installed on the OS.


Solution


The best solution is to find out where in your configuration or script you are setting the DISPLAY variable and remove that script or configuration. If that is not the case, then try to disable X-forwarding.
If for some reason you are not able to do that, there is a quick workaround:
Unset the DISPLAY environment variable by editing the set environment script.
Add following command line to the script:
unset DISPLAY
